2010 / 2011 Programs

Jackrabbits Youth Outdoor Group
Track Attack Masters Training
Junior Racing Team (YRG & HP) Ski Fitness & Ski Fitness Light

The programs described herein reflect only a part of the club's activities, and describe the cross-country programs that will be offered in the 2010-11 season.  Volunteer coaches run and coach the majority of these programs with direction from our Head Coach Georg Jalkotzy, as well as on-snow coaching from racers in the High Performance program.  Other volunteers provide the support and administrative work necessary to facilitate our active travel and racing schedule.  We are always in need of help, and parents and athletes are encouraged to step forward and assist their volunteer coaches.

While there is not necessarily "something for everyone", these programs do support the development of skiing athletes, and give athletes the opportunity to compete at whatever level they choose.  The development is balanced, and based on requirements outlined in Cross Country Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model.  Compared to other sports, the program progression requires a moderate commitment for any given age.  Jackrabbits are encouraged to participate in the Bow Corridor Regional Race series and especially The Great Cookie Race in February.  If they have a taste for racing, they are encouraged to join the Racing Rabbit program and discover the pure joy of going fast on skis.

With specific regard to the programs, there is no guarantee to the number of nights that the programs will run.  Typically we are able to get 8-10 weeks in during the December-March period.  Sessions are cancelled due to lack of snow, temperatures below -20c, and conflicts with racing schedules.

If there is any confusion on which program is best suited for you or your child, coaches will be available on Information Night (2010 date TBD) to answer specific questions.  Alternatively, please email info@foothillsnordic.ca.  In the interim we recommend that you start participating in the dry-land training sessions that are currently running.  The dry-land schedule is posted in the on-line Forums.
