Volunteers

The Club and its programs run on volunteer power.  By becoming a member of the club and also by enrolling yourself or child in a program you incur an obligation to devote time and energy towards assisting the club and its programs to be the best available.  Historically we have not had a highly organized volunteer scheme in place.  Such a plan would incur an accounting overhead and necessitate the juggling of deposit cheques.  So, do your part to ensure that such a scheme will not be needed in the future.  If you are not sure how to get involved, please read on.

Our flagship event is the Kananaskis Ski Marathon (KSM), also known as the Great Cookie Race.  The expectation is that every member of the club will bake a dozen cookies for this event.  In addition we would like to see everyone participating in the staging of the event.  There are many tasks both small and large to be undertaken.  These may be on the day of the race, but there are also jobs to be done beforehand and afterwards.  Hence, you can still volunteer and ski in the event.

For those who are registered in programs, there are directly related tasks that need to be done to keep these programs running smoothly.  From Jackrabbits to Tourers there is something YOU can do to help.  It could be to organize a phone tree or to coordinate a social event.  Speak-up when program leaders ask for a volunteers.

There are several ski and biathlon races that the Club organizes each year.  For example:  Bow Corridor, Biathlon Cup, Western Canadian Championships, and Continental Cup.  We would like to see some new faces come forward to be qualified officials.  If you feel that first hand experience is necessary before taking an officials course, try assisting at a "low key" Bow Corridor race.  There are many straight forward jobs requiring your help. All you need is a smile to hand out cups of Gatorade!

As a club we do try to get together several times a year.  These events are best run by a team of people, each doing a small job so no one feels overloaded.  It's also good to have a short slide show.  Maybe this is where you have talents to share.  With your registration this year you are asked to indicate the areas in which you can help.
