Cookie Race Volunteers are Great! Mar 4th, 2010
By: Greg MacCulloch

A huge thank-you to the many volunteers at the Kananaskis Ski Marathon another huge success. This year was an extra challenge as some key people were away at the Vancouver Games but some new people stepped up to the plate and we have such a depth of seasoned volunteers that the event went off very well.

The competition is of course a great deal of fun but it was also fun for me to visit with old friends and new and to have a chance to chat about our common interest of skiing, racing, and sharing by providing these opportunities to others which is of course the reason we put on the race.

I want to offer a special thank you to the Jack Rabbit volunteers. In this Olympic year we have witness some phenomenal results by Canadians in our sports of Cross-Country skiing and Biathlon. Every one of those amazing athletes got their start from people like you who give of their time and experience to introduce young people to a sport that can provide a lifetime of enjoyment.

We can hope and dream that some of the competitors that we had join us last Saturday may one day represent Canada on the world stage and that would be nice. However, we can be sure that every competitor who participated along with us is continuing on a journey of fun, excitement, and good health that we get from participating in winter sports in Canada.

The opportunity to participate would not be possible without our volunteers who unselfishly provide that opportunity in the free spirit of giving to all who are willing to come. So on behalf of everyone who has every thought about donning a pair of cross-country skis I want to thank our volunteers for creating the opportunity and for putting on yet another great race!

Wishing you all the best,

Greg MacCulloch
