  • Foothills Nordic Ski Club – Calgary, AB

    Foothills Nordic Ski Club (FNSC) is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Financial Controller to support the Club’s financial oversight, reporting, and compliance functions.

    FNSC is one of Canada’s leading community-based nordic ski clubs, serving athletes and families across cross-country skiing and biathlon programming. With a strong volunteer culture and growing operational complexity, the Club is continuing to strengthen its financial systems and processes to support long-term sustainability and organizational excellence.

    This role is designed as a part-time oversight and integrity function within the Club’s broader financial structure and works closely with the General Manager, Administrator , external bookkeeping partners, and the Finance and Audit Committee.

    Position Details

    • Part-time contractor position

    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week (20–40 hours per month)

    • Workload varies seasonally during budgeting, year-end, audit, and transition periods

    • Work is expected to occur primarily during regular weekday business hours to support collaboration with staff and external partners

    • Remote work arrangement may be considered, with preference for candidates based in the Calgary area

    Key Responsibilities

    • Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules

    • Support the integrity of financial reporting, accounting processes, and internal controls

    • Assist with forecasting, variance analysis, and financial interpretation

    • Monitor deferred revenue, restricted funds, and reserve balances

    • Support oversight of CRA, GST, payroll, and other compliance requirements

    • Assist with audit preparation, year-end processes, and financial documentation

    • Identify financial risks, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement

    • Collaborate with staff, external financial partners, and volunteer leadership to support sound financial stewardship and decision-making

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping oversight, or financial management experience

    • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and financial controls

    • Experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting

    • Experience with QuickBooks Online and cloud-based financial systems preferred

    • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or community-based organizations considered a strong asset

    • CPA designation considered an asset, but not required
